Description

Jacqueline Roumeguere-Eberhardt was born and raised in Northern Transvaal, South Africa and initiated as a Venda Princess.

She studied Anthropology in The Sorbonne in Paris where she met her first husband Pierre Roumeguere. They set off together on many adventures in Africa, Pierre as a Diplomat and Jacqueline working for the French National Council of Scientific Research (CNRS). In the early 60’s, after spending 3 months in the desert looking for the Lost City of the Kalahari, they ended up in Kenya where Jacqueline decided to record the Maasai people’s amazing ceremonial cycle.

She spent her whole life photographying, filming and observing ceremonies that may never happen again.

She fell in love with Ole Kapusia, a young and valiant warrior who not only helped her with her research but also raised her three French children, Isabelle, Carolyn and George.

In 1979, Jacqueline and Ole Kapusia built a family home, Mara Enkipai, where Jacqueline spent a lot of time writing. Her last book yet to be published is called ‘My husband’s six wives….’. By the time she finished writing it, Jacqueline was the first of Ole Kapusia’s nine wives.
