Easily accessible from the mainland by air and sea, it's the perfect choice for an island destination holiday or the best way to start or end your mainland safari tours.

Though tourism is being developed on the island, friendly people with knowledge of the island are always on hand to help you. Several guest houses, tour operators and hotels can arrange excursions, guides and transport around the island. For backpackers and spirited travellers, a network of local taxis (dhala dhala's) cover every corner of the island.

As the island is largely agricultural, fresh food is always near and many places offer delicious local meals at reasonable prices. Cell phones from all the major Tanzanian networks cover almost the entire island, so you can always stay in touch with home.
