  • Days 1 & 2: Arrival Nairobi, Kenya

Depart on an overnight flight to Europe and connect with your flight to Kenya. Upon arrival, transfer to our boutique hotel, set amid gardens in a quiet neighborhood.

    • Palacina Suites

  • Days 3 & 4: Chyulu Hills

After breakfast, fly to the verdant Chyulu Hills, nestled between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks. Sweeping plains unroll from here to the foot of Tanzania’s majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, visible in the distance. Settle into your luxurious tent at Campi ya Kanzi, a stunning ecolodge operated in conjunction with the local Maasai community. The lodge itself provides some great photographic opportunities—from the terrace of the main house, train your lens on the wildlife that comes to graze against a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. On the first night, gather for a talk by our expert—and get tips for photographing wildlife.

During our stay here, explore hills, forests, and lakes on guided walks and game drives. With our Maasai trackers, learn the behavior of the creatures we may see—from zebras, giraffes, and kudus to buffaloes, lions, and cheetahs. Venture into the spectacular cloud forest atop the Chyulu Hills to photograph unusual trees, plants, and brilliant birds. Hike up to a hilltop for a sundowner, and capture the golden afternoon light on the plains. Get to know the traditions—and the families—of our Maasai hosts and trackers.

  • Days 5 & 6: Lewa Wilderness Conservancy

Fly to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, 62,000 acres of golden savanna dotted with iconic, flat-topped thorn trees on the northern flanks of Mount Kenya. The conservancy is home to a number of rare species, including the reticulated giraffe, the dazzling Grevy’s zebra, both black and white rhino, wild dog, and the endangered aquatic sitatunga.

From our base at a luxury tented camp, spend two days taking part in a variety of activities designed to get you and your camera close to the rich wildlife of the region. Set out on day and nighttime wildlife shoots with Maasai wildlife guides, search for any of the hundreds of species of colorful birds on a birding walk, or prepare your equipment in a hide to capture images of animals at close range. Meet local Samburu, and enjoy a rare chance to photograph their traditional way of life.

Take walks through the countryside to traditional villages, and venture into Lewa’s dramatic gorges and thick mountain jungles. Explore nearby prehistoric ruins, pay a visit to a local farm, and photograph the crafts of the region on a visit to an artisans’ center. We’ll stop for picnics in the bush and capture incredible views while sipping cocktails as the sun sets.

  • Days 7, 8, & 9: Masai Mara National Reserve

Today we fly to Leleshwa Camp, an intimate tented camp situated in the Siana Community Conservation Area just west of the Masai Mara Reserve. We’ll have three days to discover the endless grasslands and picturesque hills of this legendary region, photographing a broad spectrum of landscapes and wildlife—including the resident lion pride that can sometimes be heard from the camp. With luck, we’ll photograph enormous herds of migrating wildebeests as they cross the Mara River.

On morning and afternoon game drives with wildlife guides, photograph hippos and crocodiles basking on riverbanks; zoom in on majestic leopards and playful elephant families; and snap action shots of lionesses stalking their prey. Study smaller creatures and plant life on guided bush walks. Spend time with the local community, visiting a school supported by the camp, shooting portraits of our Maasai neighbors, and documenting their everyday life. In the evenings, take advantage of the camp’s multimedia workshop to review and edit your images.
