Description

Experience the magic of Uganda using both 4—4 vehicle and light aircraft. You’ll spend 3 nights in spectacular Murchison Falls National Park with your own driver-guide before flying South to track Mountain Gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Lose yourself in the Wilderness of Ishasha – Queen Elizabeth National Park before flying back to Entebbe. The ultimate wildlife viewing safari.

  • Arrival in Entebbe

We will meet you from your international flight at Entebbe Airport and transfer you the short distance to our very own boutique guest house on a hill overlooking Lake Victoria. We personally welcome you to Uganda and brief you on the exciting days to come answering any last minute questions you may have.

If your arrival time allows we recommend taking a sunset cruise on the lake or a relaxing walk in Entebbe Botanical Gardens (optional extras). Alternatively our large private tropical garden is the ideal place to relax and watch our many species of birds go about their business. End the day with a cold Ugandan beer served by our friendly staff.

  • Heading North to Murchison Falls

Today you will head north passing through Ugandas bustling capital, Kampala. Once we hit the open road north you will pass through a Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to Ugandas only Rhino and tasked with repopulating Ugandas national parks with Rhino. The Sanctuary offers the unique experience of a walking safari with the Rhino. These majestic giants roam the reserve freely and are guarded 24/7 by dedicated and knowledgeable rangers who will immerse you in their project.

After a bite to eat you will continue north into Murchison Falls National Park. Tonight will be spent at an Eco Lodge in Budongo Forest, one of the most bio-diverse areas anywhere in Uganda. You will learn more about primate and habitat conservation whilst at the lodge.

  • Chimpanzees and the Mighty Nile

This morning you will be led deep into the Budongo Forest in search of our closest relatives, Chimpanzees. Your expert guides and trackers will look and listen for signs of the Chimpanzee community that live here. This exciting form of tracking will give you a fascinating insight into this complex habitat and its animals. Once you have located the chimps you will have an hour to observe them, witnessing varied behaviours from hunting to grooming.

You will return to the lodge, jumping into the vehicle and beginning your first game drive on the newly reopened Honeymoon track leading to the magnificent Murchison Falls, where the mighty river Nile is forced through a six metre gorge creating the worlds most powerful waterfall - a sight to behold! A short drive further you will arrive at the lodge perched on the banks of the river. Relax here for a few hours before your evening sunset cruise. Cheese & wine will be served rounding off a fantastic day in a fantastic park.

  • Game Drive and Boat Safari

An early start this morning to take the car ferry across to the Northern Bank of the Nile. Your guide will take you into the Delta area where the Victoria Nile meets Lake Albert. Framed by the Blue Mountains the scenery is stunning, the rift valley at its most beautiful. Game populations are dense here and the big cats can be found laying an ambush or in the many acacia trees. After an action packed morning you will return to the lodge for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon you will take a boat safari upstream to the base of Murchison Falls.

The more sedate speed of the boat allows you to get much closer to the plethora of animals and birds that frequent to river banks and islands. Keep your eyes peeled as you pass huge pods of hippo and sand banks of Nile Crocodile, rarer wildlife species can also be seen coming to the water for a drink. Return to the lodge in time for a cool off in the pool and a cold drink.

  • Return to Entebbe

Return to Entebbe with your guide at your leisure. If time allows you can do a spot of craft shopping in Kampalas bustling markets or take a stroll around the historic Botanical Gardens in Entebbe. A delicious Mediterranean inspired evening meal awaits at our intimate restaurant. You will have a further chance to chat with us and we will answer any questions you may have for the second leg of the trip.

  • Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today you will take the morning flight from Entebbe International to the remote Kihihi airstrip. This scenic flight offers a brilliant birds-eye perspective of Ugandas beauty and scale, flying low over Lake Victoria and the stunning features of the Eastern Rift Valley. You will be met at the airstrip by a representative from Buhoma lodge who will drive you the short distance to the forest.

After settling in for a delicious lunch overlooking the forest covered hills, you can take a community or nature walk. An exciting optional upgrade is to experience the Batwa cultural tour, exploring their forest home and how they survive in modern Uganda. Retire to the lodge and relax in the lounge or your private balcony overlooking the forest.

  • The Big Day - Gorilla Tracking

A short walk from the lodge you will be met by your Uganda Wildlife guide and rangers. After a briefing and registration your group will be led into the forest in search of one of the Gorilla families that call this forest home. Depending on the gorillas location the walk can take anything from 30 mins to 4 hours. For this reason we highly recommend you employ a community porter to assist you and carry your kit. You are also contributing to community conservation by providing locals with work.

Once you locate the Gorilla family you will have one hour to observe these magnificent primates. Most families have at least one silverback and many have young babies, clinging to mothers. A magical hour awaits you. Watch as they eat, move and socialise with each other. After the hour is up you will return to the lodge. Be sure to take advantage of the complimentary massage to ease any aching muscles.

  • Ishasha Wilderness

Rise early to witness the mist rising over the forest canopy. After breakfast you will take a short drive in a 4x4 with your guide from the lodge. The Ishasha wilderness area of Queen Elizabeth National Park lies just an hour and a half from Bwindi. This remote plain and river system is famous for tree climbing lions.

It also has healthy populations of leopard and hyena not to mention huge herds of game and endemic bird species. Spend as much of the day exploring the park as you wish, taking lunch and dinner at the intimate and rustic lodge on the banks of the Ntungwe River. There are a number of beautiful high spots in Ishasha, perfect for a sundowner whilst surveying the plains below for game.

  • Fly back to Entebbe

After breakfast you will take a final game drive through the Ishasha sector. Keep an eye on the large fig trees for lions and leopards! Your guide will take you back to Kihihi airstrip where your plain will meet you for the return flight to Entebbe. Depending on the plains schedule you may fly north over Lakes Edward and George, past the Rwenzori Mountain range before heading east towards Entebbe.

Depending on the time of you international flight you may wish to add a day or overnight room at Karibu Guest House. There are also many optional extras that can be added to this safari. Please ask us for our recommendations.
