Description

This Tour combine game drive in Mikumi National Park, Hiking and Nature Walking in Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Mwanihana Peak Trail is a two night trek, taking you on a 38km round trip deep into the forest, and up to 2140m. The trail passes through a number of habitats, from miombo woodland, through grassy plateaux, sub montane forest, montane forest, bamboo, and finally heather at the top. Its quite common to see elephants on this trail.

  • Dar Es Salaam - Mikumi National Park

    Pick up from airport or hotel in Dar Es Salaam and transfer to Mikumi National Park takes about 4-5 hours drive - with lunch in Morogoro town - on arrival afternoon game drive in the park and drive back to the camp for dinner and overnight. Camp Bastian Mikumi is set in unique and natural surroundings. We are offering comfortable accommodation and a warm and friendly atmosphere.

  • Hiking to Mwanihana Trail

    After breakfast you will transfer to the village of Sonjo and begin the Mwanihana trek. An armed park ranger will accompany you because there are numerous elephant and buffalo in the area. As you trek, study the tracks and signs in the forest and various medicinal plants. Reach Njia Ya Panda (the climbing path). Check into the Campsite where you will have dinner and overnight.

  • Hiking to Mwanihana Peak

    After breakfast, you’ll start the hike early to ascend the 2150m to the peak. The path goes up and down for the first section along a grassy ridge, but once it reaches the forest (1500m), it ascends very steeply through giant trees. Half way, there is a cool and tasty trickling stream for filling water bottles.

    At around 1900m you suddenly leave the forest, and enter an area of bamboo – this zone has seen extensive depletion in recent years due to climate change and less rainfall on the mountain tops. From here, you can clearly see the three humps that make up the top of Mwanihana.

    The path circles around the tallest one, and after a fine view point on some flat rocks, tunnels through the heather to the trig point and weather station on the top. The view of the Kilombero Valley is marvelous. Descent to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

  • Descend to thr park headquarter

    Early morning start descend to the park gate meet the driver and drive to Camp Bastian Mikumi for hot shower then start driving back to Dar Es Salaam.
