During the peak of the dry season, this river attracts an enormous number of migratory animals from surrounding regions. Here, unique wildlife including the oryx and gerenuk – two prehistoric looking antelope – roam the grassland. If timed correctly it will be impossible to miss signs of the Great Wildebeest Migration since wildebeest, zebra and impala positively coat the landscape. Serengeti National Park
Set out in your safari vehicle in the early morning hours, beginning your multi-day search for the savanna’s prolific wildlife. Guides will tailor your explorations to your particular interests – whether thats birdlife, mammals, or, the Great Wildebeest Migration. The guides will also be sure to expose you to some of the lesser-known corners and species of this remarkable ecosystem.
Of course, most who visit the Serengeti come in hopes of spotting Africa’s Big Five. Aptly named by hunters for being the most dangerous and difficult mammals to hunt on foot. Moments with lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo are coveted by all lucky enough to see them, and in this environment rife with life, spotting will not be difficult.
Spend the day venturing in and out of the shade as you search for a herd of elephants splashing in the river, or a lion lazing with his cubs in the shade of an acacia tree. In the late afternoon, return to the lodge to seek refuge poolside as the sun sets.

Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater
This morning you will set out early for a safari amidst the Great Wildebeest Migration. Take time to speak with your safari guide, learning about the birds, insects and plants that are fundamental to the region. Be sure to spend time looking for the threatened white and the endangered black rhinoceros that survive in the region if lucky, and are subject to intense conservation initiatives. In the afternoon, you will begin to drive east, out of the Serengeti and towards the Ngorongoro Crater rim.
The landscape will shift dramatically in a short period of time as you approach the lip of this collapsed volcano. The lush jungle and forests perfectly compliment your time in the Serengeti, while still offering the opportunity for incredible wildlife encounters. The crater itself was formed two to three million years ago when an ancient volcano collapsed in on itself. Today, it remains the world’s largest inactive and unfilled caldera, and acts as a natural enclosure for the wildlife within.

Explore the Floor and Plateau of the Ngorongoro Crater
This morning you will rise early to descend 600 meters to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. As you drive through this prehistoric looking landscape, look to the trees for playful Colobus monkeys and hungry leopards. The region is also home to a large lion population, which can be observed wandering near the huge flocks of flamingos on the shores of Lake Magadi.
Had you not seen a rhinoceros in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro is also a great place to observe black rhinoceros in their natural habitat. Having explored the crater floor, you will then return to the surrounding plateaus where you will witness impressive views of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s third highest peak.
There are a series of alkaline lakes in these highlands, which are home to rich birdlife. Circle these lakes in search of the perfect spot to lay down your checked Masai blanket for a picnic lunch. In the late afternoon ascend the crater and drive to the comfort of your luxury lodge.

There are plenty of opportunities to sample local cuisine. Explore the beauty of Lake Natron
Shimmering amid the sun-scorched Kenyan border northeast of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this 58km-long but just 50cm-deep alkaline lake should be on every adventurer’s itinerary. The drives from Mto wa Mbu or the northern Serengeti are remote, with a desolate, other-worldly beauty and an incomparable feeling of space and antiquity.
The roads pass through untrammelled Maasai land, with small bomas (fortified compounds) and big mountains often in view in a wild, cauterised landscape. From June to November at the lake itself, upwards of three million flamingos gather – its one of East Africas most stirring wildlife spectacles. And close to the southern end of the lake, the views of Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano are splendid.
-
Bushmen Tour in Lake Eyasi
Indigenous tribes are slowly disappearing across Africa and very few remain in Tanzania. Hadzabe bushmen live around Lake Eyasi, continuing ancient practices that compel and enthrall. They take their bow and arrows into the forest, nimbly sidestepping through the trees and tracking animals with remarkable skill. Every upturned stone is a clue, and these traditional hunter gatherers know exactly how to bring home a meal for the village.
Youll spend a day with a local bushman guide and experience how life is lived in this remote and untamed corner of Africa. Its a place where fires are still lit by rubbing sticks together. Alongside the cultural interaction, theres a gentle serenity and freedom to the landscape; no wifi, no phones, no noise from passing traffic. This is a day that really will reveal ancient Africa. In the afternoon drive to the comfort of your lodge.

Squeeze in a Final Morning Game Drive in Lake Manyara Before Returning to Arusha
Rise early this morning in order to take full advantage of this final day in the African bush. After the excitement of the Serengeti, game drives throughout the tranquil Lake Manyara National Park will be the perfect way to unwind and reflect upon this sensational adventure. The park itself is structured around the central alkaline lake, characteristic of the Great Rift Valley.
During the dry season, this lake sustains much of the region’s wildlife with impressive migratory bird populations flocking to the flamingo-filled shores. The mixed forests that encircle the lake are of particular interest, given that resident lions are often found high within their branches. Tree-climbing lions are a phenomenon unique to this park in Tanzania. Spotting the tail of a male lion dangling from a tree is one of the most perfect conclusions to this Tour.Following this game drive, it will be time to return to Arusha in time for your outbound flight or to your hotel in Arusha.
