Description

Mount Meru is located north of the city of Arusha. It is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania, after Mount Kilimanjaro. The Momella route - which Start at Momella gate, on the eastern side of the mountain - is used to climb Mount Meru. Mount Meru is the topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park. Its fertile slopes support a forest that hosts diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, and monkeys.

  • Hotel - Miriakamba Hut

    The driver will pick you up at your hotel in the morning. We go to Momella Gate which is the starting point of your climb.Here is where you will meet your crew, (guides, porters and the Ranger who will accompany you all the way to the summit of Mt. Meru (The socialist peak).After all the registration and park fees payment (included in the price) you will start your hike with your guide and the ranger.

    But keep in mind that there are two ways to take you to Miriakamba hut (2500 masl) the first one is the long one which follows a 4WD and it is about 12km. This one is great and very recommended because it is very good for acclimatization.The second option is the trail which is the direct path and short way to rich Miriakamba hut and it is also steep, and we do recommend that you better start with the long way on the first day and do the shorter trail on the descent day.

  • Miriakamba Hut - Saddle Hut

    Early after breakfast you will continue with your ascent via Mgongo wa Tembo Ridge (Elephant Ridge) to Saddle Hut for hot lunch.After Lunch you will have some rest and then later in the afternoon you will do the acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3800 masl). After the hike you will descend back to the Saddle hut for dinner and overnight.

  • Saddle Hut - Mount Meru Peak

    Day three begin at midnight with a cup of tea or coffee and some snacks. After that you will start your final ascent of mount Meru via Rhino point all the way to the socialist peak 4565 masl, for the sunrise and some photos as well as celebration.

    We are not going to be for hours at the top, and shortly after the arrival we will start our descent. And remember – whenever you reach the summit of any mountain you are just the half way of the climb, so once you are done you will descend to the saddle hut for some food (it can be breakfast or brunch depending on the time that we get back to the hut.

  • Saddle Hut - Hotel or Airport

    After breakfast you will continue with your descent to Momella Gate via the short trail where you will meet your driver guide who will take you to your hotel for a hot shower and celebration.
