Description

This tour begins and ends in Nairobi, covering the biggest and most famous national parks in East Africa in between! You will see wonders of the modern world, including the great migration of wildebeest from the Serengeti to Maasai Mara. You will also journey into Uganda for gorilla trekking. This tour is sure to leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

  • Nairobi

Today you will be picked up at the airport and taken to our office for a pre-departure meeting. Later you will be dropped off at your hotel where you can relax and prepare to start your safari with a fresh mind. Your overnight will be at the Hennessis Hotel.

  • Nairobi - Masai Mara

Check out of your hotel and drive via Narok town to Maasai Mara National Reserve, the land of the Maasai tribe. The proud, young Maasai warrior-nomads with their plaited hair, red cloaks and spears will challenge your curiosity. This 700 square mile game reserve is the Africa you know from your dreams, complete with wild animals grazing amid the superb rolling landscape of gentle hills and acacia woodlands.

Check in to your lodge and enjoy lunch. There will be time to settle in before your first game drive. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the reserve and return to camp before dark. Your dinner and overnight will be at the Mara Springs Tented Camp.

  • Masai Mara

Today you may opt to have a full day of uninterrupted game driving or take a hot air balloon ride (not included in the safari price). If you choose the balloon ride, you will take to the skies for the ultimate Maasai Mara wildlife adventure. Soar over herds of game to the inner reaches of the Mara. You’ll ascend in the early morning when the winds are calmest. Watch as the professional crew fills the balloon with hot air. Slowly the big, colorful bag begins to bulge and take shape.

After your incredible flight, it’s time to come back down to earth for breakfast. You might wonder what all the ordinary people are doing on this perfect African morning! Before leaving, the pilot will present you with your balloon flight certificate, and then you’ll enjoy a game drive en route back to the camp. No flight of the imagination can match this airborne experience! Your dinner and overnight will be at the Mara Springs Tented Camp.

  • Masai Mara - Lake Nakuru National Park

After an early breakfast you will depart for Lake Nakuru in the west. You will ascend the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley, where lush coffee and tea plantations dot the landscape. Your driver-guides will give you a brief overview about coffee and tea farming in Kenya along the way and you will have a short stopover at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint for photographs.

You will arrive in Lake Nakuru in time for lunch, after which you will set off for a game drive in the park in search of the big five: lions, rhinos, leopards, buffaloes and elephants. Lake Nakuru is also famous for its millions of flamingoes and migrant birds that dot its shores. In fact, Nakuru has over 425 different bird species. You will return to the hotel before dark for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

  • Lake Nakuru - Jinja

After breakfast you will depart Nakuru for Jinja, driving across the Malaba border. You will tour the source of the Nile River, the world’s longest. It begins its journey here before crossing through ten African countries and plunging into the Mediterranean Sea.

Jinja town is regarded as the adventures capital of East Africa. It is place brimming with adventure sports and activities, including the popular white water rafting, bungee jumping, and kayaking.

  • Jinja - Kabale - Lake Bunyonyi

After your breakfast you will drive down to Kabale, Uganda’s highest town (2000m), witnessing beautiful, lush scenery along the way. We will camp at Lake Bunyonyi, Africa’s deepest crater lake (900m). Bunyonyi means “place of the little birds”, so you can expect to view interesting and unique bird life while staying here.

Enjoy a beautiful drive over the mountains as we transfer to our base in Kisoro, which sits on the southwestern tip of Uganda. You will have a relaxing evening as we prepare for the trek ahead. This is an excellent place to rest before your gorilla trek.

  • Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Today we embark on the experience of a lifetime. Trek through the early morning mist in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is home to roughly half of the worlds 700 remaining mountain gorillas. The trekking can be demanding and the day long - a water bottle and good walking shoes or boots are highly recommended. Experienced local guides will lead you through the thick mountain jungle.

Once we locate the gorillas, we will stay and observe them for about an hour (this time is strictly regulated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority). Photography is permitted, although not with the use of flash (there are also restrictions on the use of video cameras). With or without a camera, however, this is one of the most breathtaking and emotional experiences Africa can offer, and is certainly one that will remain with you long after your journey.

  • Pygmy Visit

Today you will eat breakfast and then take a guided walk to visit locals in the community. You will have the option to visit with the local Batwa community or go canoeing on the lake. Return to the camp in time for lunch, after which you will be free to visit orphanage children in the local village.

  • Kabale - Kampala

After breakfast you will be transferred back to Kampala, eating lunch en route. You will arrive in the city by evening. Check in to your hotel and spend some time enjoying some of the nightlife this city has to offer. Return to the hotel for your overnight stay.

  • Kampala - Lake Naivasha

Drive to Lake Naivasha having lunch en route. For an additional coast you can enjoy a boat ride or visit Hells Gate National Park, where you will see how the landscape was formed due to volcanic activities. Arrive at Carnelley’s Camp in the evening and enjoy dinner and your overnight stay.

  • Sonachi Green Crater Lake

Breakfast will be at 7:00 am, after which your driver-guide will pick you up at 8:00am. The road to the Green Crater Lake takes you out of Naivasha and along a rough and bumpy path down the edge of lake, passing by huge greenhouses where roses and other flowers are grown for the export market. You will arrive at the Green Crater Lake at approximately 9:30am, at which point you will begin your morning game walk. The Green Crater Lake was formed by volcanic activity. The group will walk in a reserve where it’s possible to get up close with giraffe and many varieties of antelope.

It’s a great opportunity for photos! The guides will answer questions about the animals, bird life etc. and point out the rocks that formed due to the volcanic activity. At 12:00pm you will leave for lunch at Carnelley’s Camp. In the afternoon you can enjoy some optional activities like cycling around the village or taking a small powerboat for a trip out on to the lake (cost not included).

  • Naivasha - Arusha

After a short tour briefing we will depart for Arusha via Nairobi at 8:30am. Our journey will take us across the border into Tanzania, and we will arrive in the picturesque town of Arusha in time for lunch. Arusha sits at the foot of rugged Mount Meru and is the gateway to most of Tanzania’s safari areas. The afternoon will be spent at your leisure. Your dinner and overnight will be at the Meru Inn Hotel.

  • Arusha - Serengeti

After breakfast you will transfer to the infamous Serengeti National Park. This park is to Tanzania what the Maasai Mara Game Reserve is to Kenya. Covering 14,763 sq km, the Serengeti is dominated by vast, open plains with an abundance of wildlife. A picnic lunch will be provided en route, and the afternoon will be spent viewing game and absorbing the breathtaking scenery. Your dinner and overnight will be at Seronera Camp.

  • Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater

Transfer to the Ngorongoro crater via Olduvai Gorge. Ngorongoro is an impressive 20 km wide volcanic crater with 600 m walls. The views from the crater rim are breathtaking, and there is an ever-present abundance of wildlife due to the permanent water supply on the crater floor.

Olduvai Gorge is famed for the discovery of 3.5 million year-old fossil fragments from an early human civilization. We will enjoy lunch overlooking the crater, and the afternoon will be spent at your leisure.

  • Ngorongoro - Arusha - Nairobi

After breakfast you will depart for Nairobi via the Namanga border. This will conclude your safari.
