• Day 1

  Arrival

  Upon arrival into Arusha or Kilimanjaro airport, pass through to the arrivals area and look for a signboard with your group name on it. Climb aboard with your driver and enjoy a scenic road transfer to your overnight accommodation. Rivertrees lies nestled in the foothills of Mt Meru and commanding a majestic view of Kilimanjaro.

  This picturesque country estate combines old-world ambience, rustic African elegance, excellent farm cuisine, personal service and genuine warmth from your hosts. Your guide will meet you for your pre-safari briefing in preparation for your departure tomorrow morning.

• Day 2

  Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park - Ngorongoro

  We transfer into Lake Manyara for morning game drive and lunch, a classic safari picnic, and enjoy our firstl glimpse of the great wilds of the Northern Tanzania. Lake Manyara offers an insight into the Great Rift Valley system and the adaptation of many herd animals and magnificent birdlife.

  Enter and take a game drive around Lake Manyara National Park. Famed for its unusual tree-climbing lions it also has a large elephant population, rich bird life in the forests and thousands of flamingos on the soda lake. We continue Esilalei Maasai Village to explore the area and our school project.

  In the late afternoon, we zig zag our way up the Rift Valley Escarpment and onto the Ngorongoro crater highlands to our lodge in an old coffee plantation area for overnight.

• Day 3

  Ngorongoro Crater, Ngorongoro Conservation Area

  Short drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ngorongoro is collapsed volcano - an incredible natural amphitheatre, 25 km across and teeming with all of the African big game.

  Early morning descent into the crater for spectacular scenery and game viewing in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world. Tonight we are staying on the crater rim, it is quite common for zebra, buffalo and even elephant to be grazing right outside the lodge.

• Day 4

  Southern Serengeti at Ndutu OR Northern Serengeti at Bologonja (seasonal)

  We depart after breakfast to the endless plains of the Serengeti. Upon entering the Serengeti, we are able to game drive all the way to our special camp area.

  The camp is mobile, following the migration patterns and therefore locations vary throughout the year from the far southern plains at Ndutu to the northern areas Serengeti of Bologonja.

• Day 5

  Southern Serengeti at Ndutu OR Northern Serengeti at Bologonja (seasonal)

  We enjoy further exploration of the endless plains. The habitats are natural and we can game drive with a picnic lunch to explore further afield. There are resident cats and herd animals for us to observe.

  All day game drives in Serengeti. Best time for the wildebeest migration is Dec to Mar (Ndutu, southern plains) and Jul-Oct (Bologonja, northern outcrops) but there are spectacular wildlife sights at anytime of year.

  Dinner and camp-fire with the Star and sounds of the African night. Overnight again at the beautiful Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp, in the heart of the action.

• Day 6

  Southern Serengeti at Ndutu OR Northern Serengeti at Bologonja (seasonal)

  We take part in an early morning game drive before returning for lunch and resting. In the afternoon, we set off to see the nocturnal animals beginning their night’s work. It is also a perfect location to partake in the breath-taking Serengeti Balloon Safari (optional addition, US$539 per person [plus Serengeti additional landing fee if flying from Ndutu]).

  Wildlife viewing and bird watching game drives within the Ndutu and Serengeti zones are offered twice per day or full day exploration. Experienced guides encourage guests to see and experience the Serengeti through their eyes, sharing a world of small and large wonders that only they truly know and understand.

• Day 7

  Tarangire National Park

  We transfer out of the Serengeti, passing through Oldupai Gorge. We enjoy lunch and a view of the archaeological sites (and visit the museum) where early human tools and fossils have been found. We set off in the direction of Tarangire National Park and arrive to our camp for sunset.

  This camp provides us with a classic bush experience that ensures intimacy, set on a ridge overlooking the Tarangire River. Historical migratory paths for elephant and buffalo make for an exciting display from camp.

• Day 8

  Departure

  Early morning game driving in Tarangire National Park; this park is famed for its massive elephant herds, true sense of wilderness and backdrop of baobabs.

  This is true Africa and the perfect way to end our adventures. You are then transferred to Arusha and your departure point or lodge.
