Description

This unique Safari combines two of Tanzanias wildest and most rugged national parks with another seldom visited and spectacular location. Fly across vast expanses of Africa, staying in pioneering, authentic camps. Ruaha and Katavi offer untrammelled landscapes and fantastic wildlife; finish with relaxation on the shores of the beautiful and historic Lake Tanganyika. Options to include a dhow trip along the Lake, fly camping on the beach, and a Chimpanzee walk into Mahale National Park.

  • Dar es Salaam

You will be met at arrivals by a uniformed representative and driven to the SlipWay Hotel. As most international flights arrive late you will probably want to head straight to bed. Otherwise there is a choice of shops, bars and restaurants to visit, ATMs and other facilities are also available.

  • Ruaha National Park

After an early breakfast at SlipWay your car service will take you to the domestic terminal for the flight to Ruaha National Park. There you will be met by your guides from Mwagusi Camp; enjoy a cold drink, the spectacular scenery and some game viewing on the Way back to camp. Settle in to your room perched above the Mwagusi sand river, enjoy lunch and head out for your first game drive in the afternoon.

  • Mwagusi Camp

Absorb the magical environment of Mwagusi Camp, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife passing through the camp and choose between full day or half day game drives from one of the best locations in the park. Take a siesta in your sumptuously appointed room and experience a real bush dinner by firelight in the riverbed itself.

  • Katavi National Park

Your guides at Mwagusi will take you back to the airstrip for the hop over by plane to Katavi national park. There you will be met by refreshments and the team from Chada Katavi. Things just got even more remote and wild, make yourself at home in the intimate tented camp before getting out to explore in the afternoon.

  • Chada Katavi

Chada Katavi hosts just 6 simple yet luxurious Safari tents, fostering a palpable sense of place. Other vehicles are even less prevalent than Ruaha; witness some of the largest concentrations of buffalo and hippo you are likely to see anywhere. Forget what you left behind and soak up the real essence of safari.

  • Lake Tanganyika

Today your guide at Chada will take you to the Katavi park gate where you will be met by a driver and vehicle ready to take you to Lakeshore Lodge on Lake Tanganyika, a four hour drive. You chalet fronts onto the beach with views out across the Lake and out towards the Congo. Rest, relax and enjoy the contrast of setting with the Safari destinations where you have come from.

  • Lakeshore Lodge

Not much has changed around Lake Tanganyika since the great European explorers first came here. A range of optional extra activities are on offer; massage, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, quad biking, fishing and sundowner cruises. The crystal clear waters boast more than 250 species of endemic cichlid fish found nowhere else on earth; Tanganyika is the longest lake in Africa and the second deepest in the world. Please enquire about options to visit Mahale national park to walk with chimpanzees.

  • Dar es Salaam

Today will be an early start for the drive to Sumbawanga (three and half hours) and your connecting flight via Ruaha and Iringa, back to Dar es Salaam. Paul Tickner Safaris can arrange your onward connections, car services and hotels in Dar es Salaam as required.
