Description

Marangu is only hut route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Stay in a hut, comfort mattresses, solar energy power, nicer hiking route and flush toilets at Mandara and Horombo huts. Easy to ascend and used by first European Hans Meyer to conquer the summt of Kilimanjaro 1889.

It is oldest route and is Kilimanjaro Park head quarters. You can use 5 days to hike but we recommend 6 days to have an extra day for acclimatization. Welcome to Kilimanjaro, Snow-caped Mountain and highest mountain Africa.

  • Drive to Marangu park gate 2h30

    Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water drive to Marangu Park gate 2h30. After check in start walking to Mandara hut. Walking under the shades of heavy rain forest.

    See monkeys and beautiful birds like Turacco or forest birds. Get picnic lunch at half way. After lunch continue walking to Mandara hut. The walk takes about 4hrs. Dinner and overnight at Mandara hut 2,720m.

  • Walk to Horombo hut

    Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, walk to Horombo hut. Nice day walking on heather and Moorland zone. Get perfect view of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.

    The trail is gradual and get great view of forest and villages. The walk to horombo takes about 5-6hhrs. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m.

  • Acclimatization

    After late breakfast, enjoy 2hrs walk up to Zebra rock. See great view of mountain on the view point of Zebra rock. Return at the hut through different route. Get hot at the hut. After lunch relax at the hut. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m.

  • Walk to Kibo hut

    Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, walk to Kibo hut. The day is a bit chill walking on alpine desert through saddle area. The walk today to kibo hut takes about 4-5hrs. Get picnic lunch at saddle area and continue walking slowly to the hut. Dinner and overnight at Kibo hut 4,720m.

  • Walk to summit

    Midnight after refreshing tea with cookies with your drinking water, start walking for summit. Walking with only guides. Porters and Chef will wait you at the Kibo hut. Walking slowly up to Gilmans point 5,685m for about 5-6hrs.

    After relax at Gilmans point for about few minutes continue walking to Uhuru Peak following crater rim for about 1-2hrs more to the highest point Uhuru Peak 5,895m. Take pictures for about 20 minutes.

    Descend to horombo hut via Kibo hut. The walk to Kibo hut takes about 3hrs. Get breakfast and continue down to horombo hut for other more 3hrs. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m.

  • Walk to Marangu Park gate

    Morning after breakfast with your drinking water, walk down to Marangu Park gate 5-6hrs. Meet Van and transfer to Arusha City 2h30.
