Description

Rongai is easy ascending camping route. Is not popular route and great view of two Kilimanjaro peaks Kibo and Mawenzi. Ascending from different landscape which is Rongai route and descending to Marangu trail which is different landscape makes this route wonderful. Has 98% success summit rate.

  • Morning drive to Rongai gate 5hrs

    Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, drive to Rongai gate via Marangu gate to get permit. The drive takes about 4-5hrs to Rongai gate.

    Check in and start walking through beautiful rain forest to Simba campsite. The walk today is short takes about 3-4hrs. Dinner and overnight at Simba campsite 2,671m.

  • Walk to second cave campsite

    Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, walk to second cave campsite. The day is clear and above the clouds and rain forest. Walking on the heather and moorland zone.

    Get great view of two peaks kibo and mawenzi. The walk takes about 3-4hrs. Relax at the camp with tea or coffee. Later walk up for about one hour for acclimatization. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight at second cave campsite 3,450m.

  • Walk to third cave campsite

    Morning after breakfast with drinking water, walk to third cave campsite. Walking on the heather and moorland zone. Today is short walk. Get hot lunch at the camp and relax. Later evening take short walk up for acclimatization. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight 3,960m.

  • Walk to Kibo hut campsite

    Morning after breakfast with picnic lunch and drinking water, walk to Kibo hut campsite. Walking on the alpine desert. The day is chill and need more gears on.

    The walk takes about 4-5hrs. After arrive at the camp relax and getting ready for next day summit. Dinner and overnight at Kibo hut campsite 4,720m.

  • Walk for summit

    Midnight after refreshing tea with cookies and wear your gears on, walk for summit. The day is a bit hard walking slowly to the summit. The walk to Gilmans point takes about 5-6hrs. After reaching Gilmans points, take photos and relax for a frew minutes.

    Continue to Uhuru peak walking on the crater rim for about 1h30. Take photos on the summit(Uhuru Peak) 5,895m few minutes. Descend to Horombo hut via Kibo hut 5-6hrs. Dinner and overnight at horombo hut 3,720m.

  • Walk to Marangu park gate

    Morning after breakfast with drinking water, walk down to Marangu park gate. The walk down takes about 5-6hrs. Meet van and transfer to Arusha 2hrs.
