Description

This safari holiday takes you to Murchison Falls N.P where you get to view the picturesque park from an Eagles vantage point in a hot air balloon. You view herds of buffalo, elephant and other game as well as River Nile as it slices through Ugandas biggest national park. You get to explore the park on land in a game drive. Lastly, you visit Budongo Forest – a part of the Murchison Falls conservation area for a chimpanzee trek in the tropical rain-forest.

  • Arrival in Uganda

You arrive at Entebbe International Airport, located on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Victoria, where a representative or driver/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will welcome you to the Pearl of Africa and transfer you Cassia Lodge for overnight stay.

  • Drive to Murchison Falls via Zziwa Rhinos

This morning, a driver/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or wherever you will be staying to commence your drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The rhino sanctuary is not part of Murchison Falls National Park but can easily be visited on the way to or from Murchison. The Rhino Sanctuary was set up to breed rhinos that were wiped out in the Ugandan wild with the hope that one day they will be re-introduced back in the wild. Here, you track Rhinos on foot with guides, which is a most exhilarating experience.

The trek is an hour and a half and you come into close proximity with the Rhinos. After your trek, you enjoy a picnic lunch and exit the sanctuary to complete your drive to Murchison Falls National Park. On arrival, you will check-in at Murchison River Lodge and have the rest of the day to yourselves or head out for an evening game drive. Overnight at Murchison River Lodge.

  • Balloon Flight & Boat launch to bottom of Murchison Falls

You are up at 5.00 am and are delivered at the balloon launch spot. At the launch spot, take photos as you watch the inflation process. You are then briefed on safety regulations by the balloon pilot and then start flying at around 6.00am right before sunrise. Admire herds of buffalo, elephants, Rothschild’s giraffe and other game as seen from above. On the flight, photo opportunities include scenery, landscape and wildlife below. The Balloon ride lasts for about an hour. On the way back a mini safari tour is provided. The trip ends at about 8:00 am.

After lunch, at 2.00pm, you will head out for the boat launch to the bottom of the powerful Murchison Falls. This three-hour boat cruise climaxes at the edge of the rift valley escarpment at which point you will get off the boat and trek to the top of the falls. Having worked up a sweat, get bathed in the misty spray that the Nile create as it forces itself into the 7-metre cleft to create the famous Murchison Falls. Return to your lodge.

  • Chimp trekking in Budongo Forest

Wake and enjoy your breakfast. After your breakfast, drive to Budongo Forest – part of the Murchison Falls National Park conservation area for your guided chimpanzee tracking experience. You go in search of the habituated chimpanzee family. Also, look out for other primates like the Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, different types of birds etc. Chimp tracking can be experienced daily with two viewing times per day – so you will take the morning slot.

The hike takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on the movement of the chimpanzees. Once you find the chimps, you will stay in their presence for one hour as you watch them feed, play and groom one another. Once the hour is up, you will come back to the starting point where your driver/guide will be waiting to take you back to the lodge for relaxation and later lunch. In the afternoon, you have the rest of the day to yourself. Overnight at Murchison River Lodge.

  • Drive to Entebbe & Departure

Today, wake up at leisure and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, relax in and around the beautiful lodge ahead of your check-out at 10.00am. After check-out, you will commence your drive to Entebbe International Airport via Kampala with a lunch stop in Masindi town. You should arrive at the airport in time for you to check-in for your onward flight home.
