• Day 1

  Arrival in Rwanda

  Welcome! You arrive at Kigali International Airport in the Rwandan Capital where a driver/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will welcome you. The airport is located in the suburb of Kanombe, at the eastern edge of Kigali, approximately 5 kilometres, by road, east of the central business district of the city of Kigali. You will then be transferred to Urban by City Blue Hotel for an overnight stay.

• Day 2

  Kigali City tour & drive to Lake Bunyonyi

  This morning, you enjoy breakfast and then head to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The Kigali Genocide Memorial is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi people in Rwanda. It honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994 through education and peace-building. You will enjoy lunch and visit the Kanombe African Crafts Village.

  From the crafts village, you will begin the drive from Kigali to Kabale town in Uganda. It is a short drive of about 3 hours. When you factor in the border crossing delays at Gatuna/Katuna, you should be in Lake Bunyonyi in the early evening. Once in Lake Bunyonyi, you will arrive at Birdnest Resort and check-in. Bunyonyi – means the “place of little birds.” Not only is it a place for birds but a restorative place, a place of solace, of rest, of quietness, of reflection and tranquility. You have the rest of the day to yourselves.

• Day 3

  Gorilla tracking & drive to Kisoro town

  You are up at 5.00am and enjoy your breakfast. After breakfast, you transfer to the Rushaga gate of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The terrain is steep – so a good degree of fitness is required for the trek. You are allocated a gorilla family in groups of 8 trackers as well as a guide with armed rangers. Expect to walk/hike for between 2 and 8 hours in steep and sometimes muddy conditions. However, the thrill of meeting a large Mountain Gorilla family led by a huge Silverback completely makes up for the effort.

  When you finally locate the gorilla family that you are tracking, sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male - the Silverback. After the mandatory 1 hour is up, you will be led back to the starting point where your guide will be waiting for you to drive to Chameleon Hill Lodge where you will enjoy a hot lunch. After lunch, drive to Kisoro town for overnight.

• Day 4

  Golden Monkey tracking & drive to Lake Bunyonyi

  This morning, you enjoy breakfast and drive for about an hour to arrive at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for your Golden monkey tracking experience. Your driver/guide will deliver you to the park headquarters where you will go through an orientation. Golden monkey trekking begins at 8.00am. Once the orientation is finished, you head into the forest along what is referred to as the Gahinga Trail. When you get into the presence of the Golden Monkeys you will know it – the forest comes alive with monkeys everywhere. You are in their presence for 1 hour.

  Usually 1-hour is over and you come back to the starting point. The endangered Golden Monkey is endemic to the Albertine rift and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park offers a rare chance to track them high in the dense bamboo forests on the Gahinga trail. After, you commence your drive back to the scenic Lake Bunyonyi. Dinner and overnight at Birdnest Resort Bunyonyi.

• Day 5

  Drive to Kigali & Departure

  This morning, wake up at leisure and enjoy your breakfast. After your breakfast, at 10.00am, begin your drive to Kigali, Rwanda via the Katuna/Gatunda border crossing. You arrive in Kigali and enjoy lunch. After your lunch, depending on the time of your onward flight, you will be dropped off at Konombe International Airport in time for you to check-in for your flight home.
