Description

American zoologist George Schaller, one of the first people to study gorillas in the wild, once said: “No one who looks into the eyes of a Gorilla, gentle and vulnerable, can remain unchanged.” This safari is one-way flight and return via the road. On the flight to Kihihi/Kisoro, look out across this land and you will be amazed. This mix safari (gorilla and savannah wildlife) will be a wonderful experience – the memory of which will remain with you for a long time.

  • Arrival in Uganda

You arrive at Entebbe International airport - located on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Victoria, where a representative or your driver/guide from Uzuri Uganda Safaris will meet you and transfer you to the Boma hotel, located in Entebbe town near the Airport, where you will spend the night.

  • Morning Flight to Bwindi & Nature Walk

Up at 5.00am. Have your breakfast at 5.30am. After your breakfast, the Boma hotel shuttle will drop you off at the airport where your Aerolink flight to Kihihi departs at 7.00am. Depending on routing today, the flight arrives at Kihihi airstrip in the vicinity of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – the home of the Mountain Gorillas at 8.45am. At Kihihi, your driver/guide from Africa Uzuri Safaris will pick you up and transfer you to Engagi Lodge.

The drive in a mini-safari van should last some 45 minutes. On arrival at the lodge, you will check-in with the help of your guide. After check-in, you can relax at the lodge. After your lunch, with the help of your guide, you will go on a nature walk to meet the Ugandans who neighbour the park. You get to learn a thing or two about the culture of the people, learn how the Bwindi forest (a UNESCO heritage site) is for herbs and tree back used to treat people for various ailments. You could also visit a local school.

  • Gorilla tracking and drive to Queen Elizabeth NP

Up at 6.00am and breakfast. Your guide will transfer you to the Buhoma gate of the park and lead you to the briefing point where park staff will brief you about what to expect for your trek. With packed lunch in your carry-on, water and other personal effects that are allowed, the rangers/guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, looking for where the family of gorillas you are tracking spent the night.

Once you encounter the gorillas, listen to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male - the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest in the knowledge that you are in the presence of the few remaining Mountain Gorillas in the wild. After the mandatory 1 hour is up, you will be led back to the starting point. You will then commence your transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. On arrival, check into Mweya Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

  • Game drive + boat cruise along Kazinga channel

After an early breakfast at 6.00am, your driver/guide will take you on a game drive to the northern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Kasenyi track in search for lions, hyenas, buffaloes, leopard, water buck, bush bucks, Uganda Kob plus many bird species including ibis, fish eagles and vultures etc. At about 10.00am you will head back to your lodge for relaxation and later lunch. After your lunch, at 3.00pm, you will embark on a boat cruise along the Kazinga channel – a major highlight of the safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

On the boat cruise, you will have the opportunity to view great numbers of wildlife including elephants, crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes and large numbers of birds including eagles, kingfishers, sparrows, eaglets and sun birds converging at the channel waters to enjoy a sip of the natural waters. After the 3-hour boat cruise, you will then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge.

  • Drive to Entebbe

After breakfast on your last day, you commence your transfer to Entebbe via the Uganda capital Kampala. Travelling via Mbarara, you will have a chance to view the beautiful vegetation down below at the rift valley escarpment. You will stop for lunch in Mbarara at the Igongo Cultural Centre & Museum.

After lunch you continue to Kampala and as you approach Kampala, you will make a stop-over at the Equator Crossing, where the imaginary line that divides the earth into two halves passes. Here you can do fun photos, buy your Uganda safari souvenir and then continue to Entebbe. You arrive at Entebbe International Airport in time for your departure flight.
