Description

This safari takes you to see two of the most endangered species in the world: the mountain gorilla and the chimpanzee. These primate treks will offer you an unforgettable wildlife experience! You will also meet with local Ugandans to lean about and experience their native culture and enjoy the beautiful scenery of nearby agricultural plantations.

  • Entebbe

Upon arrival, you will be met by a member of the Yalasafari staff, who will then transfer you to the Lake Victoria View Guesthouse for relaxation and your overnight stay. Depending on your arrival time, you may take an optional tour of Kampala city before going to the hotel.

  • Jinja

After breakfast, you will transfer to Jinja, which is the source of the Nile River. First you will stop in Mibira forest for a walking safari. Mibira is the biggest natural forest in Uganda and is rich in primates, including the black and white colobus monkey and olive baboon. From here you will continue on to Jinja for a half-day of white water rafting on the Nile. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the Bilkon Hotel Jinja.

  • Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast you will drive to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, stopping for lunch along the way. Your rhino tracking will take place on foot in the evening when the animals are more active. Return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay at the Amuka Lodge.

  • Murchison Falls National Park

Eat an early breakfast and then check out and proceed to Murchison Falls National Park. Drive through the Kaniyo Pabidi tropical forest to visit the top of the falls. This visit is the highlight of your fourth day on safari. Watch as an explosive dash of water (at an incredibly close range) rushes through a narrow gorge and plunges 45 meters down.

Have lunch at the Red Chili rest camp.In the evening, you will go on a three-hour boat ride to the base of the falls. Hopefully you will get to see hippos yawning, Nile crocodiles on the riverbank and many water birds. Return for dinner and your overnight stay at the Pakuba Safari Lodge.

  • Budongo Forest

After another early breakfast, you will drive to the ferry crossing area and transfer to the northern bank, which is famous for its good game drive opportunities and the chance to see African elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and up to 76 other animal species.

We will continue along the drive circuit to the delta point. Eat lunch at the lodge and then make your way to the cool, tropical forest. This is great place to listen to the “sounds of the night”: birds, primates and frogs. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Budongo Eco Lodge.

  • Hoima

In the morning, you will have breakfast and then attend a briefing on your upcoming chimpanzee trek. You will walk within the tranquil forest and then spend at least three hours taking in the chimps and many other wonders of nature!

If you are a keen birder this might be your moment to catch sight of a variety of forest bird species. Return for lunch and then transfer to the Kontiki Hotel in Hoima for dinner and your overnight stay.

  • Kibale National Park

Today you will embark on a long day’s drive to Fort Portal town, eating lunch along the way. You will stop along the way at the Rift Valley escarpment on Lake Albert, a typical African village in the countryside and tea plantations. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the Chimp’s Nest.

  • Queen Elizabeth National Park

Make your way today to the Kibale crater area for a village walk. After lunch you will drive south past the Rwenzori mountain ranges and cultivated villages all the way to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park is known for its diverse wildlife such as the Topi antelope, Uganda kob, and Kasenyi plain lion. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the Irungu Forest Safari Lodge.

  • Queen Elizabeth National Park

Go on an early morning game drive in search of members of the “big five”, including the African elephant, cape buffalo, lion and leopard. You may also see warthogs, hyenas and a variety of birds. You will return to the lodge at 2:00pm for lunch and then go for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the Irungu Forest Safari Lodge.

  • Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Eat breakfast and then drive off into this amazing park in search of the tree climbing lions in the southern part of the park. By midday, these lions, who lounge in high fig tree branches, can usually be found within the thorny savanna woodland. Later you will make your way to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, eating lunch along the way. Your dinner and your overnight stay will be at the Gorilla Mist Camp.

  • Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Lake Bunyonyi

Wake early this morning for breakfast and then attend a briefing about your upcoming gorilla tracking experience in Ruhija. You will carry a packed lunch on your trek due to the all-day nature of this activity. In addition to gorillas, this forest is full of birds, butterflies, forest hogs, forest elephants, sitatungas, duikers and rare tree species. In the evening, you will transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for dinner and your overnight stay at Bunyonyi Gorilla View Packers.

  • Lake Bunyonyi

Today you can opt to take a hike on the Bushara trail, which borders the lake, go on a canoe ride with a local resident, or visit the terrace hills of Kigezi and learn about the Bakiga peopleÂ’s way of life. You can also opt to spend some time at the hotel relaxing. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at Bunyonyi Gorilla View Packers.

  • Lake Mburo National Park

Eat breakfast, check out of the hotel and then drive through the nearby hilly terrain to the acacia and shrub spotted savanna to Lake Mburo, the home of zebras and impalas. Eat lunch at Rwakobo rock and then relax or a bit. In the afternoon, you will go for a game drive, keeping an eye out for zebras, impalas, elands, cape buffaloes, warthogs and others. Return for dinner and your overnight stay at Rwakobo Rock.

  • Kampala

Get up early for a chance to see leopards, waterbucks, zebras and birds before daybreak on a jungle walk. You will then eat breakfast, check out and embark on an exciting road trip back to Kampala, stopping at the Igongo Cultural Centre in Mabarara for lunch. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the Marles Royale Hotel.

  • Entebbe

Eat breakfast at the hotel at your own pace. Today you will say farewell to Uganda, the pearl of Africa. You will return home full of safari memories to share with others!
