• Day 1

  Kilimanjaro International Airport

  You will be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport for a road transfer to the Rivertrees Country Inn in Arusha. Your base for one night on half board basis.Once an old coffee estate, Rivertrees is now a charming country inn nestled in abundant foliage with the Usa River flowing by. Set in the foothills of Mt Meru, conveniently close to Kilimanjaro International Airport and a short drive to Arusha, its location proffers a wealth of natural wonders to explore.

  Comprising the original Farm House, an elegant River House, luxurious River Cottages and several beautifully appointed Garden Rooms, it also serves delicious garden-fresh cuisine in its stunningly set restaurant. The swimming pool and spa are tailored for relaxation, and friendly personalised service ensures a memorable stay, whether for a one-night stopover or much longer.

• Day 2-5

  Arusha to Chada Katavi, Katavi National Park

  Your driver guide will meet after breakfast for your 15 minute transfer to Arusha Airport for a scheduled flight Katavi Airstrip. This flight only flies on a Monday and Thursday. On arrival at the airstrip youll be met for a game drive transfer to Chada Katavi. Chada Katavi is a stylish, simple bushcamp, small and intimate with just 6 East African safari tents - spacious and comfortable with wide-open fronts for panoramic views of the plain and animal life.

  Youll see game of all kinds from your verandah. Elephant are frequent visitors, theyre attracted to the shady fruit trees as the guests! Katavi is known for unbelievable game, with vast herds of buffalo roaming the plains; also elephant, lion, leopard, crocodiles and hippo. Chada Katavi offers game drives in open 4WD vehicles, night drives, fly camping under the Star, outstanding birding and viewing of big mammals, daily walking safaris.

• Day 6-8

  Game drive transfer to Mahale Mountain National Park

  On arrival at Mahale Airstrip youll be transferred to a large motorised dhow boat for a 45 minute transfer on the clear waters of Lake Tanganyika to the camp. Its no exaggeration to say there is nowhere in the world like Greystoke Mahale. Sitting on a pristine, white sandy beach overlooking the turquoise water of Lake Tanganyika, with the forested slopes of the 8000 ft Mahale Mountains rising behind. Greystoke affects people in a way that no other place does; because its remote, the mountains rising from the beach and the wide lake - you feel that youre the only ones here.

  With just 6 wood and thatch bandas, its a fantastic spot for chimp trekking, boat trips, deep water swims, forest walks and village visits. Evenings end with sundowners on the rocks of the headland, where drinks are served around the lamp-lit bar whilst the mountains, rising behind camp, disappear into the darkness.

• Day 9

  Flight back to Arusha

  Transfer by boat to the airstrip in time to connect to your scheduled flight to Arusha. This flight only takes place on a Monday or Thursday. On arrival in Arusha, youll be dropped at the airport to connect to your next destination. Please note: Flights between Northern Tanzania and Western Tanzania are on Mondays and Thursdays only. Monday departures from Arusha give you 3 nights Chada Katavi and 4 nights Greystoke Mahale, whilst Thursday departures give you 4 nights at Chada Katavi and 3 nights at Greystoke Mahale.

  We can easily organize pick-ups and/or drop-offs in the Serengeti pre or post a safari in the West, or alternatively can arrange onward flights to Ruaha, Selous and Zanzibar & other islands. Children of 8 at Greystoke Mahale, and children over 12 at Chada Katavi. We can only offer walking and fly camping at Chada Katavi to children over 16, and chimp trekking at Greystoke Mahale to children of 12 and above - this purely for sensible safety reasons.
